What kind of a tire gauge do you have? At least for my rig, a dual chuck tire gauge with a straight-on foot at the end (rather than an angled one) works a lot more easily for getting to the inner valve stem. No extenders needed, just air through valve caps. I may have somewhat different wheel sizes or styles, of course; but I can say for sure that the style of tire gauge made a big difference for me.
