In general (but not always)
Diesel, more expensive to purchase and repair. More power, drive nicer.
Gas - Cheaper, cheaper to repair. Don't drive as nice as most diesel pushers. Gas pushers are hard to find but out there.
I think it comes down to your bank account, how much you will use it and how much drive time behind the wheel. Short distance trips and little use you are probably better off with a gas. The more you use it and drive it then diesel may be the best option.
As far as floor plan, I am sure you can find one that fits your needs in either model.
