Which one of these C's would you buy?

I would assume the CA unit spent it's prior life, with folks on vacation travelling America. With the smaller dealer, any chance, it spent it's life at the infield of a racetrack? If you have any near you? If so standing on the roof is pretty hard on a RV. Might look at the generator hrs as a clue to there former lives

which one has a rubber roof? buy the other one.

look for a private seller ,just to meny miles on these units. there wore out thats why there for sale.

Have you read the rental thread? Lots of good and bad about used rentals. I've been very happy with ours since 2008. But they are not for everybody. You get the basics only, which is good IMO, very little to go wrong. And what does go wrong 99 percent of parts are very common to pick up most anywhere.

On either you choose, learn a few things about the motor and you're good to go with either.

I'd miss the slide for making the RV roomy but a TV and awning can be added.

I personally would not buy a rental because they are sold with so many miles. Not just wear and tear on the chassis, but more importantly is the RV structure. I would search for something equivalent from a private party with 1/4 the miles (or less) for the same money. Remember miles = earthquakes. That much shaking is not good for the house and appliances. And like someone previously mentioned, rentals often end up on abusive roads so extreme earthquake conditions will increase the likelihood of such hidden damage.

The best rigs found have low mileage, are stored in a shelter of some kind, and the owner has taken meticulous care of it. I feel it is worth paying notably more for such a find.

If only I could have found our rig 10 years ago when shopping for a used rig. We ended up buying a brand new one which turned out to be a good decision after-all. Then we got exactly what we wanted, and just as important, we did NOT get what we did not want. The manufacture of our rig is quite flexible and affordable concerning deviations and customizations. No deep price gouging as is common with most other manufactures.

I would go with the non-slide.

My reasoning:
I go camping not RVing;
The places I camp are not set up to have the outdoor space up next to the RV - so an awning isn't really useful;
The places I go camping may not have the room to extend a slide;
I don't watch TV when I camp.

I agree with others that a TV can be easily added if desired.

The length difference isn't enough to be an issue.

So, unless the weight restriction is an issue, I would suggest spending time in each one and "act out" a day in the RV. Have everyone who will be traveling in it do a morning routine, pretend to make a meal, and so on. Go with the RV that is most comfortable for that. Do it with the slide in and the slide out - some folks want to be able to leave the slide in at times, if you will want to, that can be a dealbreaker.

Unless the one from the local dealer is in really sharp condition, I would probably prefer the CruiseAmerica one because their refurbishment process is quite thorough. The difference in mileage is in my opinion quite immaterial, and the Ford chassis is quite up to going farther with some care.

If you ask CruiseAmerica, I think they are willing to do some upgrades and so forth to their units, perhaps including adding an awning and so forth. You won't be getting opulent interior furnishings or major changes, of course, or major wholesale changes to the structure. At any rate, it would not hurt to enquire; the worst that happens is they turn you down or quote a price that's entirely unreasonable, and you're back where you started.

I completely disagree. Miles in the 100k - 130k range on a E450 V10 chasis that is less than 10 years old don't bother me one bit. In fact, if there is a good maintenance record, I actually prefer that the unit has been driven and serviced regularly, instead of just sitting.

But that's besides the point. I'm interested in people's opinion between these two particular units.

I do appreciate the input on weight, drive-ability, and capacity. Those are things I wasn't thinking about. I just kind of figured a few feet in length wouldn't make any noticeable difference ... but the weight of the slide wasn't something I'd considered.
