Aug 03, 2013Yesterday was Filter Friday at the local NAPA store. I usually get my OEM oil filters and Valvoline SynPower MST 5W-40 oil there. I can get a good price on oil by buying enough for a little more than two changes. That's five 6-packs. Since it was time to change the fuel filter I bought one on sale for $30.14 and the sales guy talked me into an engine air filter for another $14. For that price I can change it early. When the fuel filter and air filter was changed at the dealer while I was on the road, the cost for just those two items came to $253.99. They charged $60.75 for just the cabin air filter which was not necessary now or even then for that matter. My expenses came out to more than $700 and they did not even address the problem I was towed in for: a disabled transmission. I am willing to pay for fair and appropriate charges, but it is no wonder most of us can be found in our driveways doing what we can on our own.
