Will the toad get sandblasted?

I see toads with barriers in front of them. I see class C's with wide rubber flaps all the way across the back. My jeep sits higher than a car. Anything interesting ever fly up and wrap around your toads windshield?

We have a 24' B+ and tow a CRV. Except for one time, the toad has been free of road rash. Ours is set up with stock mudflaps behind the wheels. I've heard the rear bumper flap causes more damage than helps.

    The one time:
We were on a winding mountain road and on every outside turn was a wet spot. Went for several miles and finally caught up to a caravan of three semi's. They were Harris beef ranch cattle transports. On every outside turn, green excrement came sloshing off the trailer beds! Once through the pass we pulled off the road to check our rig. The rear of the MH and the CRV were covered with cow crap! Luckily a self serve car wash was near and it cleaned up fine.

    Watch out for green puddles!

BTW- motorhomes typically have a long overhang behind the rear wheels and I think this helps keep the debris down.

Hey, how does that B+ tow that CRV?, what engine etc?, very interested to hear
  • I have a full hard rubber flap mounted on the rear bumper of the C measured 2 inches from the pavement for clearance and so far no damage.

The hula skirts that flap in the wind are no good since they bend with the wind under the RV and actually help what ever is trown up to go higer by the vacum created by the RVs flat back end, causing more damage to the toad, a hard rubber flap will not bend with the wind, then of course my RV and the toad are at the same height more or less.

  • I have a trailer and tow vehicle, rather than a motorhome and toad, but I have had rocks go into the windshield, as well as bounce off other body panels on my Jeep, thrown up by cars and trucks I was following or passing, or being passed by. I've had to replace windshields as well as do some repainting because of it. I've also seen chips and sprayed oil and other stuff on the front of my TT from my TV. So I'm certain that if I DID have a toad behind my RV, I'd have some sort of barrier to try to keep debris from the one off of the other.
  • Hasn't happened to me yet in 30,000 miles. And I pull a Wrangler.
