Windshield Replacement

What can I expect when I have my driver's side windshield replaced?

Will the glass company come to me?

Does the technician have to remove and measure the windshield before ordering?

It looks like my windshield is in a rubber gasket and suffered a hit on the lower gasket creating a crack that has grown to halfway straight up right in the center of the windshield.

  • The windshield used in RV coaches in not made by the coach manufacturer. There are numerous "standard" windshields that are used by several different manufacturers for different types of vehicles.
When I called RV Glass Solutions, they asked for the number down in the corner and whether or not the windshield was tinted or not. From that number and the info on my insurance company, they handled everything. In about a week RV Glass Solutions called me to schedule an installation. When they showed up it took about 45 mintues to remove the old one and install the new windshield.
Since I live in Florida, windshield replacement is ZERO deductible so my out of pocket expense was zip. Basically all I had to do was call RV Glass Solutions, give them the number of the windshield, and they handled everything from then on.
  • Should be a Guardian or other part # in the corner. I was able to get one for my 1999 Winnebago in one day. Installed and no issues.
  • Contact your insurer and they will make the arrangements.
Our windshield was replaced last year. The insurance company sent a rep who got the right numbers off the windshield, ordered it, and installed it.

Replacing it isn't the better part of it, getting may be.

Is the M/H manufacturer still in business? If so, talk to them as to where to order. And remember the asian glass that is being imported is not the glass you want.
  • If we are talking about a MH make sure they they have done MHs before. Many of the RV parks have experienced MH glass guys come out and do great work.
  • Look in the lower corner. There should be an identification number in the glass.
Some installers will come to you some will not.
Have your insurance company handle it.
