Windsor Monaco 40PST Headlight switch

During our first trip to FL, I realized that the headlight switch is not working correctly.

1. It was quite hot (or at least very warm) to touch
2. The knob that would adjust brightness of gauges, would only operate at certain positions and not other positions, the gauges would be dim, as if the rheostat switch had oxidized areas on it (I did not yet open the dash).
3. The headlights felt dim, not bright enough for a big vehicle like this.
4. The voltage gauge would drop to 10v from 13.5 as soon as the headlights would turn on (I know that 3 and 4 could be a separate issue)

As it seems to be easy enough to change, I wanted to ask where should I procure such things. I thought that I had a Freightliner chassis, and I was hoping that I could get them at my Freightliner dealer, I own a Freightliner semi truck in addition to this RV.

thanks

  • Welcome to the forum... :) :)

Chassis is more likely a Monaco Roadmaster, but we need to know the year of your RV to be sure. Suggest that you put that info in your signature or profile and you will get more specific answers in the future. Very few if any on a FL chassis. The switch is most likely a Cole Hersee as used in the big trucks.

That is a huge voltage drop...if you Google Windsor headlight relays, again depending on year you may find an illuminating :) answer. Lots of folks have wired in a separate relay to avoid the hot switch and voltage drop, the search will provide the answer to that issue for sure.
