Wingard In-Motion roof mounted satellite receiver

We have a 2015 Tiffin Open Road, bought used and it has a Winegard
in motion satellite receiver on the roof, and a dedicated Direct TV
receiver in the TV compartment in our bedroom. Are considering
connecting Direct TV service, using the satellite. Will appreciate
any information or comments, good, bad, or indifferent. Thanks for
any and all comments.
  • The Winegard will receive both Dish and Direct signals. Tiffin ships the Dome with the Dome DIP switches set for Direct TV. Tiffin decided a few years ago to supply all their Units that had the optional Winegard Sat dome(In motion or stationary) with a Direct receiver. Simply because Dish and Roof top domes have more problems and complaints since Dish the Dome has to toggle between 3 sats where the Direct just locks onto 1 sat(101). This limits you to just SD(NOT HD) Direct reception. But, you will be hard pressed to actually tell the difference for most viewing. For trouble free viewing and lock in on the Dome, use the Direct Receiver supplied by Tiffin. Just call Direct to activate it. Doug

That should work without much issue. If you are a current DirecTV customer just get the serial # and associated information from the back of the receiver and add it to your account. You can test the antenna (not receiver) on the roof by turning on the receiver and then the antenna with your TV on. Channel 100 should come through once the antenna is locked on even with the service turned off. You cannot receive any of the DirecTV HD programming using a dome but all the SD channels will be available.
You should join the Tiffin Forum as well. There is a wealth of information available about your coach and setup.

If you are not currently a DirecTV customer you may have to agree to a 2 year contract to have service started.
  • In motion? I just dont see the need or logical reason for it. But thats me. You will only be able to get Direct SD programming. If you want HD, and remember Direct is planning to end SD programming in the next few years you will need a different antenna. I suspect that you would be able to convert to Dish and then your antenna will allow you to get HD programming.
