Winnebago - good job
I don't complain or compliment much, but when I get especially pleased or pissed, then I may share my results with others. This time, I'm delighted with work done by the Winnebago factory.
We called for an appointment - got one about 2 months out at the factory in Forest City, Iowa. Since I only live about 100 miles away, we drove down the night before and camped in the parking lot of the customer service area. Thanks for the free power and WiFi, Winnebago! They were appreciated.
At 7am the next morning I got in line and was assigned a service technician, Jerry. They knew in advance I wanted to have custom cabinet work performed. I wanted the old analog big tube TV removed, the area it occupied converted into storage where I could install a printer, a new door to hang over the opening where the TV was, then mount a new flat panel onto the door.
Jerry walked out to the coach with me and listened to what I wanted (yes, he really listened) and asked good clarifying questions. In addition to the TV cabinet work, I wanted several other smaller items attended to. Later that week I drove back to Winnebago and Jerry came out to meet me & show me what he had done. My DW and I were both pleased! He has crafted a panel door, reinforced it with steel on the back, mounted our 29" LED TV on the door, wired it all up, modified the crank-up antenna, and sealed the caulk on the roof. He also made an aluminum "shield" to protect the cutout for the stove.
We were real pleased with what he did for us. He had access to Winnebago engineers that offered advice on building the custom cabinet and reinforcing the cabinet door so it could hold a TV.
After picking our rig up, we drove South to Des Moines where we camped out - watched our new TV and listened to the radio. All worked perfectly.
Jerry had never outfitted a cabinet door with a TV before. However, the results look like they were planned by the factory! Needless to say, we're pretty happy!!
