Winnebago basement air

2000 Ultimate Advantage with the Coleman Mach basement air will frost over on the fins when heating at temps around 43 - 35 and air is humid. Had a new board put in a few years ago and they thought it might solve the problem....didn't happen. The frost will completely cover the exterior vent fins and actually ice up between fins. Any ideas out there ?? Thanks, Bob
  • You might want to take a look at this thread... it sounds like your heat pump might be acting as expected under those conditions.

    clicky

I switch mine over from electric to gas once we get into the low 40s.
  • Ours has always worked this way and is normal. Our residential heat pump in our home also does this, but it has an auto de-frost mode that our RV model does not have. When it totally frosts up, it goes into auto de-frost mode for a few minutes, running in cooling mode to heat outside unit and melt off the frost. The RV unit just shuts off once it has frosted up.
  • Thank you all on the basement air. I wish ours would shut off after it frosts up. The first time it happened it was completely iced and chugging. Do you think it would have shut off after overheating?
