1. This is a NOT a MOTORHOME. It is a BOX that looks like a motorhome. Nothing in the description indicates anything about appliances and slide outs and living space and awnings and STORAGE weight and AIR CONDITIONERS and such. Where are you getting the power to runs these items????? Where will be the CG's that have 100 or 200 amp service to recharge and OPERATE your appliances? I doubt there will be LP on these boxes. I doubt they will add a Diesel fuel tank on these boxes.
2. The Makers get publicity for their pipe dreams. But, reality is way down the road.
3. 125 miles???????????????? Are you kidding????????? You just get going and all of a sudden STOP, find a Recharge station and wait.
4. When I see people get excited like this, I remember going back almost 40 years, when some RV'ers stated that once the Asians get involved in building RV's, the USA makers will fold. 2019 and NO Asians building RV's. Doug
OK we will throw in a mattress and a porta potty will that make you happy.
Really folks it is a motorhome box just not completely setup as a motorhome yet, they plan to use it as stated in article but can be made into a motorhome easy, it was built in a motorhome factory..
This is just a start for real world testing of how this chassis will work in the publics hands, better battery tech and more faster charging systems are coming on board fast and if Ford sticks with this and improve the electric chassis than in 10 years it should go over 800 miles on a charge and fully charge in 15 minutes or less..
My ICE motorhome will be my last, my next motorhome will be electric or a hybrid..

Timmac NEVER told you WHEN he'd be buying the EV MH, did he? you just jumped to conclusions. I'm sure I'll be buying a EV MH too, but that'll be in 15 yrs, since mine is practically New. So yeah you're right I'll be enjoying that kool aid. - wildmanbakerExplorer

Thank you Timmac, well said. Many here are acting like today is the last day of Technological advances. - timmacExplorer

:R:R:R - Mile_HighExplorerThe only ones trying to call this a recreation vehicle is the journalists, which is typical for them. They can't report fact because they are ignorant and associate Winnebago with recreational vehicles. That's probably why EcoTEC embellishes the story by showing videos of motorhomes in the background, kind of like some people embellish their posts with CAPITAL letters :)
“Motiv’s EPIC all-electric chassis, paired with Winnebago Industries’ highly regarded commercial shell, is the perfect fit for end-users who seek reliable performance and functionality. We are excited to collaborate with Winnebago Industries as we work together to grow the electric commercial vehicle market.”
This is not intented for the recreational vehicle market, yet.......... - 1. This is a NOT a MOTORHOME. It is a BOX that looks like a motorhome. Doug - ChainwrightExplorerYou keep bringing Long ranges up. AGAIN, it's a global economy, Winnebago, thor, Coachmen et al. don't just build MH's for America anymore. AGAIN for you 150 miles is Nothing, in other Major markets, it's ALOT.
I don't want to deviate too much, but MY main objective is to keep progressing, my objective is to get away from the ICEs that we've been using for decades. I'm all for Innovation. Y'all have compelling arguments AGAINST the New technologies but In all Y'all INFINITE knowledge do y'all have any compelling arguments FOR (PRO) any Knew Technologies?
Now to CITY buses: I've lived in A lot of major cities, Yes many still use Catenary Electric power, but most use LPG. Never heard of Hybrid city buses, but hey, who am I, I'm not an expert, I'll give y'all the benefit of the doubt. But yeah, whatever happened to a LPG MH concept?
The objective (at least for me) was never to TOTALLY eliminate the use of oil (petroleum), but instead of being almost totally dependent on it why not cut our current usage in viable areas and curb global emissions by 50-60% if possible and where possible?
Again Y'all have some compelling arguments Against just about everything that modern and futuristic technologies are coming up with Today. But at the rate we are going, It's not about the HERE and Now, I have to look to the future because I have a son, and if I present him with YOUR outlook, it makes for a dark future without hope. Also, Some of you seem to be savants in this area or maybe just Well read, But I see the strides and progress that Mercedes, BMW, Peugeot, Toyota, Honda, tesla (et al) Engineers are making and coming up with, yet you come on here and pretty much bad mouth everything that these engineers come up with. So who should I Listen too??? What are YOUR credentials, what are YOUR achievements in this arena? who seems to be more expert in this area you or the Engineers from MB, BMW and so on? Where do their experties and expert knowledge exceed yours?
Now......where do you propose the auto/transportation industry should focus their Research on?
JMHO, hope no one is offended or taking it personal. - valhalla360Navigator

Biggest issue is manufacturers aren't going to build just for the RV market...one option for MH would be a lot of city buses have gone hybrid If they could put the drivetrain in a MH that might work...only problem is those drivetrains are significantly more expensive than a standard diesel...it works for a city bus running 16hr per day every day where they can justify it based on fuel savings but for a MH that might do 5000miles per year mostly freeway (where hybrid doesn't gain you much), I suspect it would be a tough sell outside of those who just want to prove how green they are.
Hybrids are much more useful for city busses than motorhomes primarily because city busses spend all their life in stop and go driving, with unusually many stops and starts. The main reason a hybrid setup increases efficiency is that it recaptures a good portion of the energy lost when braking and can use that later to accelerate, rather than just dissipating it all as heat. Steady highway driving produces far more limited improvements.
In some areas, all electric city busses have been used for decades, albeit powered by overhead trolly cables rather than a battery. Of course that is only practical where you have the trolly wire infrastructure in place over all the roads you might need to traverse.
Not only do you get brake regeneration, a city bus might average less than 25mph which doesn't take much HP but hard acceleration does, so they wind up with much bigger engines to compensate. By using a hybrid, you can downsize the engine and keep it running close to ideal efficiency regardless of acceleration.
But yes, as I indicated, your average MH does most of it's miles on freeways where the big diesel is fairly close to it's ideal efficiency.
There have been some recent tests for semi's using cantenary electric power. If it was ever implemented on a wide scale, RV's could certainly take advantage of it but even if the govt went whole hog on it, it would still take a few decades to get enough coverage to make it viable for RV's. Trucking companies could implement as soon as a few key routes are covered as they often have trucks repeatedly running the same route...RV's tend to wander a lot more so it would be very limiting. - DrewEExplorer II
