- rk911Explorerwhen the technology improves to a point where the range of a sedan is 300-400 miles and recharge time is no more than the time it takes to fill-up with gas and hit the head then and only then will we consider an electric vehicle. I'm not holding my breath.
- wanderingaimlesExplorerWill it pull a trailer with 20 Honda 2200i's for recharging it?
- STBRetiredExplorerMaybe someone will build a Super C on the Tesla chassis.
- garyemunsonExplorer IIInto 7th year of driving electric. We started with a Volt then upgraded to a Caddy ELR when they had their big closeout sale. Now that we have our Tesla solar panels on the roof, Our electric bill is $16 a month INCLUDING keeping the car charged. No more gas for us when possible. I'm probably too old to be able to enjoy RVs when they 'flip', though. Driving an electric car is like being able to buy gas for $1 a gallon. Waking up to a 'full tank' every morning without standing in the cold, hot, or rain to refuel...priceless.
- wildtoadExplorer III too believe that the all electrics will be coming for many types of vehicles, RVs included. However, the big holdup(s) will continue to be distance and charging infrastructure. Cost will be a concern initially until like all things, mass acceptance and production ramps up.
- Dutch_12078Explorer IIII wouldn't rule out that an electric Class A is coming fairly soon. Large fleet operators like Pepsi, Walmart, and Anheuser-Busch are pre-ordering Tesla's upcoming "Semi" tractor-trailers due out next year...
"The Tesla Semi launched Thursday night to a host of superlatives. It’s faster, safer, and cheaper to run than anyone expected. Most of all, it will run 500 miles on a single charge, according to Tesla. The battery might have as much as 1 megawatt-hour of energy, we believe. And with a newer, super-faster Tesla Megacharger system, a trucker can add 400 miles of range in 30 minutes. The Tesla Semi will go into production in 2019, Tesla claims."
Tesla Semi: 500-Mile Range, Cheaper Than Diesel, Quick to Charge - StimExplorerThe model T replaced horses AND battery cars!
Maybe they can put Windmills on top of the motorhome too.
How much government money is being spent on this "research" ? - SidecarFlipExplorer IIII don't care if they become mainstream. At my age, I'll be taking a dirt nap by the time suckers start buying them anyway.
- gboppExplorerWow! Tough crowd. With this attitude we would have surrendered to Japan on December 8th, 1941. :B
The Model T and the Wright Brothers Flyer had a limited range. Some complained about them but, others saw the potential. Technology takes time to catch up with the idea.
Maybe the electric RV will never happen, and maybe our grandkids will consider them normal. Let's wait and see what happens in the future.
Everyone have a nice Christmas. :) - IvylogExplorer III

Electric motorhomes are coming: a new RV powered by solar panels and 91 kWh battery pack
Now a new prototype of an actual full-size electric motorhome shows that it’s possible.

Has a 100 mile range that can be extended with the solar, BUT how much further??? The panels on the sides are not doing much so take a 45' DP with the roof completely filled with solar panels..400 sq ft is 5000wats of panels which equals 6 HP...not 600 HP which many 45' have.:S
Yes, smaller takes less HP but my 40,000 lb aerodynamic brick 42' DP with 400 HP got 7 mpg so a aerodynamic 4,000 lb car should get 70 mpg ...not may of them out there. Yes, a large DP is surprisingly efficient...smaller does not equal more efficient.
All of your heavy electric vehicles only make sense if you have stop and go travel where the battery is recharged when you stop of slow down regardless of the battery type.
