Winnebago vs Tiffin

Looking at the Winnegago Solei & the Tiffin 38 Red both with bunks I would appreciate your feedback on a Winnebago vs a Tiffin. I really like the bath & 1/2 in the Solei but not the light interior colors. What is the quality & after service records on these two Coaches. Never owned a coach before. Thanks for your opinions.
  • Two mighty fine choices. Both are higher end builders. In my opinion you cant go wrong with either one. Although you will find negative reviews on both of these coaches, you will find many more positive reviews of them.
  • My previous MH, which I truly enjoyed, was a Winnebago Adventurer 38ft, gas engine, and I kept it 11 years. My current MH is an Allegro Red 38ft, purchased in Oct 2014. I am really enjoying it too. Forgetting that one is gas and the other diesel, which give an entirely different ride and load capacity...The Tiffin floor plan was very well thought out leaving me with very little to do to "customize" the interior to our liking. A few clothing hooks, and an added shelf or two in a cabinet and we were ready to roll. Shopping for the new motorhome took almost 2 years. We really wanted an RV that permitted easy walking from the front to the toilet and frig while closed (rolling down the road). Many RVs required you walk sideways, and twist...us older people have a real problem with that. I also insisted on windows on both sides for the passengers. When traveling with the grandkids I want them to see the sights on both sides of the road...(Look At The Moose!!!) Tiffin provided for both, the Journey was a bit tight in the closed position. Others were impossible and impassable.
The finish on the Winnebago can arguably be said to be "better" in that every wire and duct is hidden. The hide might be flimsy, but the camouflage is complete. In the Tiffin at the slides and in some corners you can see the workings...this might not be so bad if it comes to a repair. Service: To date, I have had two concerns regarding the Tiffin, how to work the TVs (all linked together by a central controller) and a weak cabinet support (easily fixed). In both cases I sent an e-mail to Tiffin and received a phone call from a specialist THE NEXT DAY. That is fantastic customer service. I also received a phone call from Bob Tiffin, the patriarch CEO, making sure I was happy.I would not hesitate for a moment to recommend a Tiffin. My Winnebago was a great MH too. Guess I'm not much help. But Happy Trails.
  • I've had both brands. IMO they're both OK.
Personally, I want to be close to the manufacturer, because I prefer to complain in person.
  • I barely lean Tiffin. You'll be fine either way though as I'd give it 1% better. The reason I BARELY lean Tiffin is nothing Scientific, but just through the years I just see a lot of surviving Tiffins to antiquity. :)

Winnies too though... but in ratio it just seems to be Tiffin.... But we are talking like ancient coaches.
  • I would have to say that it is hard to beat the Winnie's. They have a much better reputation then Tiffin. The only thing that Tiffin has that is probably better is a very good and understanding owner of the company (Bob).
But some of the bigger Tiffin coaches have had some major problems with cracks on the curve, where the roof meets the side walls. Lots of of posts on owners headed to Redbay for repairs.

I personally do not like that part.
  • I don't think will regret choosing either one of these manufactures. If you are going to buy either one, get the one that suits you the best. At the price point the units are I think they are similar in materials and build quality

Tiffin has no equal in over the top after sales support. Winnebago gets my vote for engineering design and layout and the documentation (schematics, diagrams) available for Winnebago are excellent. After sales support for Winnebago seems to be more dealer sensitive than Tiffin.

I have never owned either brand... My perspective is based on my experience working on them and the 12 years of moderating this forum. No Holiday Inn insights :).

  • 3 years ago I had my sights on either a Winnebago Journey or a Tiffin Phaeton, then the only two quality builders who had a 36 foot diesel. I ended up in the Phaeton almost by chance when the dealer who had the Winnie in stock cold not get it to their shop for me to walk through and drive.

We have been delighted with the Tiffin. Our coach had two serious problems, the driver side living room slide out floor rotted and they replaced it at Red Bay on their dime - the change out which required removing the slideout took just under 2 hours!!!. The roof rails also were failing and they spotted in on their inspection and did the work as "good will". those are just two of the stories where Tiffin has come through for us in a manner that has me singing their praise for after sale customer care. It is not likely we will buy another coach, but if I did I would certainly start with Tiffin. Which is not to say Winnebago isn't as good, I have no personal experience
