Thanks guys for all the advice. Yes it is at my house & my wife is completely on board lol. I am a big do it yourselfer & do most of my own mechanic work & carpentry. I am a pastor & do those things on the side for myself & others.
I know this a lot different then a home or my 71 cobra lol but I am interested in doing the work.
The reason it's free is because it belonged to a deacon in our church who is up in his 80's now. The rv had sit for a couple of yrs because the suspension had got weak, so last summer he got guys to put new tires on it, & new suspension but they sent him the wrong ones. They sent #4's & he needed 2's. That's why I'm getting the suspension free under warranty. We thought the job was going to be a quick fix. Like some minor roof repair. Lots of clean up & a little water damage in the front cabnet & charging batteries. I was not sure about the few bubbles in the bedroom. He said he was going to sell but when I told him I was interested he said I could have it if I could fix it.
So we got home & immediately tore into it. That's when we found all the water damage in the bedroom. We already tore out the side walls down to the insulation. The rv is aluminum walls with steel frame & insulation with a thin piece of paneling. The paneling was wet. We tore out carpet & pulled back the ceiling carpet a little to check it. The ceiling is good & the floor is good (my wife was tearing it out lol). Looks like the water seeped in from the sides of the roof & ran straight down the walls. There was clothes left in the cabnets & so that held water & ruined the side cabnets in the bedroom.
After seeing how bad the bedroom was I took a closer look on the roof & sure enough there is some bad spots on the roof & it will need to be replaced with all new rubber & some boards. I have already started pulling off the rubber it just bad on the last 8 inches of the sides. I have priced everything for the roof & I can the rubber & adhessive & tape & dicor caulk all for about $600. Not sure about the paneling & cabnets in the bedroom. We had planned to put in about $1000 in repairs, paint & new floors cause she didn't like the carpet. That has definitely doubled or maybe tripled.
I have a lot more questions & will be doing a lot more reading. I just wanted to know if it would be worth the repairs. Thanks everyone.
I am already impressed with the amount of feedback.
Do u have to replace the insulation or will it dry?
