Would you put used tires on your coach?

My coach tires (16 inch) are ready to be replaced.the tires are in excellent condition but have aged out.

I stopped by a local tire shop today and he had several firestone transforce tires in my size .the tires have 8/32 tread remaining and date code is 2 years old.the tires are from a local utility company service truck.

I can have tires mounted and balanced for $45 each.
what is everyones opinion?
While we average about 8-10 trips a year our average mileage is less than 2000 miles per year with our longest being 350 round trip.

Ford chassis of that era (90s) had 16" tires. It was common back then.
  • If you know/trust the shop and tires look good, why not? Also, would help if you are familiar with practice of utility company and replacing good tires is part of their normal operations (maybe miles or time based vs actually when tires wear out). At 2 years old and 8/32" tread, sounds like a good deal.
  • No. Rolling gear I don't skimp. If something goes wrong at 60 MPH+ it can get very ugly very fast.
  • For less than 2000 miles per year, yes I would. I would have them carefully inspected by a tire perfessional.
  • Date code is 0212 .so tires should be second week of 2012 ..correct?
the shop has three sets of these tires (18 tires) .I have a tread depth gauge and plan to go thru and get a set with tread depth as close as possible.

I put nothing but used 16" takeoffs on all of my trailers and when possible I try and find Firestone Steeltex or the newer Transforce as I've had good service from them. Unlike most every one else who will respond to this post I'll say yes... BUT I'd probably put two new of the same tire on the front. I would select the four with the fewest balancing marks on the bead to go on the back of your rig assuming equal even wear.
  • I have installed used tires on my coach and used them for a few years until the others "caught up" and needed replacing as well. If there is good tread and they are less than 7 years old I would install them without a second thought.
