XM Radio Antenna Placement

My Rockwood came with a portable Satelite Radio device in a cradle wired into my sound system. The pill box antenna is on the centre of my roof outside (came from the factory this way) I bought another crasdle/installation kit at Best Buy and they wired it into my Silverado 2500 and they put the pill box in the center of my dash at the base of the windshield When travelling I take the device out of the trailer and put it in my truck. Reception is pretty good with a few interruptions as the antenna needs to 'see' the southern sky.

I only had one occasion that I could not receive and that was because I was at Lake Kissimee under a giant live oak. Now when I park and am ready to unhook I check the reception in the trailer. If I had done this at lake Kissimee and moved the trailer a couple of feet I could have listened to 'Cousin Brucie' ( I found this out when I hooked up to leave and tried the XM radio). Always check before you set up!

I bought a boom box that accepts this device and use it in my game room, again aiming the 'pill box' out a window at the southern sky but since I am in a really wooded area reception is poor on a windy day when the leaves are out.

Mine works fine on the dash.

After reading the feedback from this thread I changed my location to a cabinet in the cab over head (Class C) and it works fine. I had forgotten the last time I tried that location and it did not work it was because I had 18 - 24 inches of snow on the roof.

Mine is just below the fiberglass cap behind a front cabinet. Works great and no holes in the roof.

Mine sits on the dash next to the GPS antenna. I went south with it and north with very few problems. The few loses of signal far out weighs the OEM radio.It was a simple install and it was cold out when I put it in. Works for us!!

I used a marine antenna and drilled the hole through the roof, it is unobtrusive and when you have a teardrop you can look down on the roof. Good rubber seal and no problems.

Double stick tape worked for mine. Worked the lead through the vent Then over to the overhead cabinet.

On my Lazy Daze I put the antenna in the vent/hatch that sits above the cabover bed. The advantage is there are no holes drilled in the rv. The antenna sits on top of the screen but inside or under the hatch cover. The hatch cover is plastic and does not interfere with the signal. It is held in place with a steel washer that sandwiches the screen between the washer and the magnet that is the bottom of the antenna.
I ran the line to the privacy curtain (about 18") and then inside the run for the curtain to the driver's side wall. Then down along side the curtain and then inside the bed and frame to the drivers door. Still inside the car I just put the wire inside the rubber door trim until I got next to the dash. Then a run over to the dashboard. I have a few feet left over that I coiled under the bunk and under the dash.
I will have to take pictures one day. I use only a screwdriver to back out the trim/runner for the privacy curtain. I can remove everything with no damage to the rv.

In my Class A, I route my XM antenna through windshield molding and into an overhead cabinet. It sits on the top shelf just below the TPO roof. Works fine. The vinyl roof is no obstacle.

The frequency of XM will pass right through fiberglass. Mount the antenna under the fiberglass roof vent. Another on this forum mounted his on top of the vent and put a big steel washer on the bottom of the vent for the magnet to cling to.
My antenna is in the vent.There are many ways to hide or cover the wire.
