Yakima chainstrap alternative
Our Yakima bike carrier is great, but our strength is weakening. We can no longer pull the straps over the hooks to secure the bikes. Is their a ratchet or some alternative to help tighten the straps?

- Yakima has newer racks with "zip strips" which look like they would eliminate the need to stretch rubber straps.

Off-Brand Pro-Series appears to use Velcro straps.

Walmart Velcro - I've read of some folks using heavy duty foam twist tie things
they sold under by a variety of names and sizes. - I don't know what those straps look like but if you have a Harbor Freight Tools nearby, they sell all kinds of ratcheting straps at very cheap prices. I just bought a pack for tying down my bikes in the back of my truck. $20 for a combo pack of 4 15' ratcheting tie downs, a ton of bungee cords, and some cable ties.
