You do get what you pay for!

My local RV dealer was having an "open house" on saturday, so I went.because I have been wanting to really go thru the class c motorhomes to look at the fit and finish, the workings of the unit, and to see if the unit and furnishings were "thought thru" in the design and engineering process. Well I can tell you that from what I saw, I will not be purchasing a product made by Thor. I'm sorry if I offend anyone here, but I saw things on brand new 79000.00 dollar rigs that should not be happening on a rig with less than 500 miles , let alone 5000 miles! I was extremely impressed with Winnebago motorhomes! Well thought out, good fit.and finish, etc... (no, I don't work.for winnebago) so the morale of the.story? you get.what you pay for
  • The two rigs probably had same MSRP, so maybe you don't get what you pay for.

If both $79k rigs actually have avg sales price of $63k for Thor and $69k for Winnie, then your phrase is accurate.
  • I probably have seen the issues of which you speak, at RV shows. It always amazed me that a $100K plus RV, at a show, would have little piles of wood fibers on the floor from where the cabinets rubbed together, inoperable cabinet doors and drawers, dripping faucets, loose vinyl flooring, broken chairs, mysterious damp spots, etc.

I was enlightened by seeing some 15-20 year old Bluebirds and Foretravels WITHOUT any such issues.

My pet peeve is $250K coaches where my 6-foot-even frame could not stand up straight in the shower.

I do believe there are great deals out there, but they are rare.

  • Not necessarily.

We once went to an RV show, one dealer had a large DP that listed at $750,000.

The bathroom door was so warped it would not latch
The over-head birds-eye maple paneling had sections that gaped from the ceiling
The drop-down TV was stuck in the down position.
This was in about a 5 minute walk-around

At point they chased us lookie-los out to show it to a "serious" buyer.

If they were trying to sell it to me, I would have walked and told them what I thought of their workmenship and attention to detail.
  • Mornin'. Good idea to compare and contrast the various units out there. Pre-purchase research goes a long way towards satisfaction after the buy. Given you are from RI, you might want to consider going to Hershey PA in September for the self-proclaimed largest RV show in the country. Virtually all RV brands, styles, and types are there except for the ultra-high end types. We went several years before making our purchase, and it helped us greatly. Best wishes on your search. Bob
