you gotta love the attemp

So setting outside the old MH and I hear the air/c start making a terrible noise , getting louder and louder. , still working to cool, motor running no issues. Make a few calls and get all kind of folks telling me things I had trouble believing, So called my builder service dept and they said,, a carrier bearing and he had one on his desk and would sent it to me..quoted 4 1/2 hrs to take out and put back, this is a basement a/c... called the a/c mfg and they confirmed the bearing issue and said if it was warranty work they would allow $150 and 2 hours labor... After several calls to someone local to fix this finally found a authorized dealer.??, Made the appointment and took it in a day early,, Late the next day after not hearing from anyone when to the dealer ,,, and found nothing started. The owner called in his repair man, who said it was going to take over 8 hours and it was the motor??. Now I am no dummy, but if you haven't even started it how do you know it is the motor. and I have the part so lets do that first. The owner tells the repairman, get on it and what time you need he would block out the time for him.
Next day we go back to the dealer and find the a/c half way put back in but none of the wiring hooked up. And the repairman off doing a another job. He tells back he has to be careful on how he puts it back it. ok, but why not complete it. By the way he put the bearing and it is now working perfectly. So talked to the owner and he said he will handle the guy. On day five the owner called me and said it was done. I asked how many hours he said the repairman now had 15 hours in this... I kept my cool, and said he needed to be there when I came to pick up , as we were going to talk about the hours, I said call the mfg and he could verify the hours it should take.
Went and got the old MH and the bill could only had 4 1/2 hours labor no charge for a motor. Wife said I can't believe someone was not hurt in this process. Good owner terrible repairman. Just another day in the motorhome world

  • Friends had generator issue. It quit working, they took it to a major camping retail and service center. They were told $300 to take it out, $300 to look at it, and another $300 to reinstall it - anything else it needed would be extra.

Nah...next trip up we dropped it in my garage (10 minutes), I messed around with it for a few hours, found the problem, bought the parts for $26.00, reinstalled it on their next trip up - around 15 minutes to get it back in.

And they wonder why these places get a bad name.
  • Unfortunately with RV's the owners always seem to be the ones paying for some employees "on the job" training.
  • There are all kinds of people out there. It's unfortunate that you had to come across someone like that. I still believe that there are more HONEST people than DIShonest, but you still got 'em and they'll do anything hey can to separate you from your money. Goes to show that the consumer should be well armed with knowledge BEFORE they try to get services from a company for anything.
