zip lock sun screen on manual awning

I have a Carefree 19' awning and would like to add one of the EZ zip blocker sun screens to rail. The problem I have is the pull down strap. The strap has to be in center of rail. Some dealers say I would have to slide the zipper part out of rail to put strap back in center of rail to close and open manual awning. This defeats the purpose of having this type of awning. Why can't I cut space in center and when I slide screen on rail place strap in center,????
  • I would think you can just cut a small slot for the strap.

Alternatively I don't think you need to have the strap in the center of the rail. I have always had my strap way off to the side so I can hold on to it while unlocking the roller.

  • Not having one of the sun blocker awnings, it brings up a question. Does the sun blocker stay on the roller tube when rolling up the awning? If not then go with sliding the strap to the opposite of the tube when installing the sun blocker.

If you roll the sun blocker up with the awning, I would work on some method to have the roll up strap in the center. I would not roll up the awning using the strap to far off center. I think that would cause the awning to roll up uneven.

No reason why you can't. Just keep the hole as small as possible, come up with something to seal the edges of the hole to prevent fraying and you'll need something to hold the strap out of the way since you won't be able to slide it to one side and candy cane it around an awning side rail.

For other readers, the EZ Zip Blocker Sun Screen is a two piece screen with a short section that is meant to stay on the awning roller and the majority of the screen is added when needed.

I made my own and just install it when needed which actually isn't all that often.

  • The strap does NOT have to be in the center. You can slide the strap to either end between the Torsion spring cap and the fabric. It is easier to pull in the center but you can pull from either end. Doug
