It's pretty fast. Meals in 1/2 hour, more or less. Slow cooking temps are much lower, and meals usually between 4-8 hours. - NYCgrrlExplorerSound like to a certain degree it could be a replacement for a slow cooker or the reverse.

To me, it seems like the only thing you gain from using a rice cooker is automatically shutting off when it thinks it's done. I pretty much use dutch ovens (indoor and outdoor types) for all rice cooker and crock pot recipes.
Same here. I simply posted it to show how you can multi-task what is often a single purpose appliance. - Wishbone51ExplorerTo me, it seems like the only thing you gain from using a rice cooker is automatically shutting off when it thinks it's done. With that said, I do have a favorite pasta recipe that I used to make in the rice cooker, but have since moved to a dutch oven.

- CrodadExplorerI cut up 3 or 4 potatoes, a pound of smoked sausage, add bell peppers, and season with salt and pepper(I use a Cajun seasoning called Tony Chacherie's). Add water to cover the potatoes and sausage. set to cook and forget about it. Very easy and taste is amazing.
I have also added corn to the mix.
