- Broken_OakExplorerHere in Texas, it's BBQ (of any kind of meat, mainly beef), Beer/Wine (always goes with the pit burning)or any adult beverage, with potato salad (hot or cold)/green (pastas')salad, beans, possibly corn on the cob, breads and desserts of all kinds. Cold drinks for the kiddos'. We do it up different every year. Sometimes Seafood boils or fries.
- NYCgrrlExplorerSince the weather and paperwork deprived me of getting away this weekend I've spent part of my time planning my Independence Day menu. Also watching the Steven Raichlen marathon on CreateTV for inspiration.
Anyway, noticed that a local mart is having the following sale:
Our Mighty Beef Porterhouse Steaks - Limit 8 - $5.99 lb. SAVE $5 lb.
and
No Antibiotics • No Hormones Stew's Naked Loin Lamb Porterhouse Chops - $5.99 lb. SAVE $4 lb.
and I know that various berries will be in season by the end of June.
So my menu(we invite people up for the day and many are there from breakfast until the next morning/early afternoon)is currently:
4th of July Breakfast
berry shakes
OJ
granola
fresh fruit bowl
yogurt
coffee and tea courtesy of the nearby Dunkin' Donuts
4th of July Lunch
burgers, stuffed and virgin
local made franks(Hummel Bros. means it's summer!)
Polish sausage from Greenpoint,Bklyn.(slurpy yum yum)
toppings for the above: chopped avocado, sliced tomatoes, grilled 'shrooms, + onions; lettuce, homemade fast pickled radishes, bread and butter pickles; half sour pickle wedges and quick pickled cukes slices. All the toppings should make the vegetarians of whatever ilk happy no matter their type.
watermelon slices.
sparkling water, lemonade and homemade ginger ale
4th of July Dinner
Bloody Mary shrimp boil
steaks
grilled brined chicken
whole Swiss chard stuffed grilled fish
grilled marinated tofu
ratatouille served rm temp
potato salad
hot peaches and shortbread w/ whipped cream and vanilla ice cream.
The morning after breakfast is always dependent on the day's before leftovers. Prolly steak and or sausage and eggs. Plus banana pancakes. Maybe chicken hash.'Course I'll pull out some of my frozen hash browns and leftover fruit.
As for the lamb steaks....they'll show up for my Bastille Day party which we also celebrate with every French rooted person and Francophile we know. Nice that I can use the same ol table colours as a week or so before;). - SWMOExplorerBeer and BBQ? Doesn't everybody???
