Avocado Sandwich

Guacamole
Sliced avocado
Sprouts
Lunch meat (optional)
Cheese (optional)
Chewy bread (sourdough, pumpernickel, artisanal, etc.)

Spread guacamole on both bread slices. Add avocado slices, top with sprouts (and the optional stuff if you like).

Eat hearty.

We just had some friends from Australia stay with us for several days. For breakfast, every day, they fixed themselves avocado spread onto toast, with lots of black pepper. I found it a bit strange. But the strangest is that they had no concept whatsoever of eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. And pickles were only to be sliced thin as a condiment for burgers and sandwiches. Eat a pickle by itself or on the side? Never!

Peanut butter an jam, does not sound that appetizing. Yes Avocado, Cheese Bacon "toasties" are common.
  • When we were little, my mom used to always make us a special treat when we got sick. It was toast with butter and mashed avocados mixed with mayonnaise. It is so good! We eat it sandwich-style now. Never tried it with pepper. My mom also has an amazing recipe for avocado pie.
  • We tried a new sandwich using Ciabatta bread, Soft Mozzarella cheese, Avocado and Tomato. Spread a good Olive Oil on the bread. Then grill it before adding your filling. Using a brick then place it on the grill again and toast both sides. This is one of our favorites while camping.
  • Avocado on toast with black pepper? Sounds wonderful. Will try it in a few minutes.

  • My wife and I love BLT's with copious amounts of avocado. As for guac, love it with chips but less of a fan on sandwiches or burgers. Do you guys in other states find it hard to find good avocados? When we leave CA, it is sorry to see what places sell for avocados.
  • For some odd reason my DGD refuses to use mayonnaise but doesn't like a dry sandwich either so I use mashed avocado instead. Win-win:).
