Cast Iron Pie's

Well after 20 some years of camping my new adventure is making some pies with the grandchildren. Found some cast iron pie makers on sale and now looking for suggestion as to what to make. Any favorite recipes out there? Thanks!!
  • We do a lot of breakfast meals in Pie Irons.
We pre-cook ground pork sausage (crumble it) and then use crescent roll dough (the stuff in the tube) as the bread. Add eggs, onions, mushrooms, cheese, or whatever.

We also do lots of desserts, again crescent roll dough and chocolate and cinnamon chips. Or any type of jam - raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, etc.

You can pretty much make ANYTHING in a Pie Iron.
And the nice thing is that the meal goes nice and slow, while you sit around the fire and talk and eat and cook more pies.
  • You can also fill them with biscuits dough and beef stew, chicken pot pie mixture. Have along with a salad. Haven't tried it yet, but what about the crescent roll dough that comes in sheets for baking. Those should be great with any pie filling.
  • We stuff just about anything in between two slices of bread but last camping trip we used tortilla shells and the kids enjoyed that more than bread.
  • Use slices of bread and fill them with your favorite flavors then cook in the pie irons:
    Pepperoni, cheese & tomato sauce
Nutella or peanut butter with apple butter
    Favorite meat and cheese combo

Enjoy that time with the grands. They're a blessing:w
  • Regular buttered bread, w/ cherry pie filling
Pillsbury biscuit mix w/ pasta sauce cheese & pepperoni
Tortilla shells on both sides , chili & cheddar in the center!!!!!!!
  • I picked up a half dozen up them last year when they were on sale. So far we have used them once for grilled cheeses lol. I Would like some ideas as well.
