- rockhillmanorExplorerGreat collection!
You will be a survivalists' BEST friend on the road. :C - dcb17bExplorer IIThere are kits available to convert the old gas stoves to propane. You can still use gas when you want. I got mine at Walmart for $20.00.
- YC_1NomadThose old mantles will set off radiation detectors. I have seen it demonstrated. Not enough to hurt you of course. Just an interesting observation. I don't know if new ones are the same.
- kyle86ExplorerSounds like an awesome lantern Tom. Those shiny tank ones look great. I got this stove free for helping a lady load up her truck at the flea market and got the lantern for $7 same place. They both look rough but work great still.
- Tom_NExplorerInteresting subject.
I have my Dad's 1950's Coleman lantern. It has a chrome tank and a wide top reflector. He had a stove but he sold it years ago. He used to use unleaded gasoline in his. At that time the only unleaded was Amoco. It was referred to as "white" gas. Years ago I bought about 50 mantles. I still have them around here somewhere. Another advantage with these lanterns is they put off a lot of heat. Seems we always did our camping and fishing when it was cold here in PA. - dewey02Explorer II

Don't let the EPA know of your location...they'll cite you for global warming! :) - YC_1NomadGosh, what memories those bring out. What a modern day convenience they were,.
Can you say, fun with flare ups? - NYCgrrlExplorer

Myself, I switched to propane long ago so that I didn't have to carry liquid fuel along and find one stove and a grill enough.
What ever makes for a "happy camper". ;)
Originally, I thought I'd take my white gas Coleman on the road for our eventual cross country trip but the idea of carrying an additional fuel dissuaded me. I'll save it for tenting trips where none of my cooking appliances are propane. - magnusfideExplorer IIGreat Collection! Survivalists I met at one cg love to collect those too.
