Not buying that, heavy is an advantage in a DO and for the price Lodge is very hard to beat. The thinner Griswolds and Wagners have their advantages, just as the Lodge does under some circumstances, but better cooking ain't one of them.

I haven't seen one, but I'm guessing it would do better with a whole chicken and the like. You might find that an 8" would be a better fit for you. we use our 8", we have 2, more than our 10".
Our 12" is a deep because we figured if we had a use for it deep would be better. We seldom use it however.

Found a great price at Academy with free shipping. Thank you posters. Now my DW saw a 10" 5 qt (deeper) as opposed to the 10" 4 qt (standard) I found on Academys site. Now for just two people is there any advantage to a 5 qt over a 4 qt standard?

While they aren't cheap, I believe you can buy the lids separately.I suppose one would have to measure to insure they will fit.

I have a large selection of D.Os and cast iron skillets.
I probably use the 10" D.O. and 10" Skillets more than all the others.

Treat em right and they will outlast your grandchildren.

I do think the flat lid is more practical.

From a cleaning standpoint, I prefer lids that don't have the multiple
cast drips in the lid. Harder to clean and season.
