Got a really neat Xmas gift

I have always been a percolator coffee drinker while camping, used drip or automated percolators at home. Cut way back on coffee to the point of using coffee singles. Cheap clean and no grounds flying around. Well I read about the MyJoe from Presto on here and the DW bought me one for Xmas and I really like it. At first it was not so great, then I came to the conclusion that most of the problem is that I use the percolator to heat the water and its too hot.

Now I don't heat it so much and it works better and I like the Costco Morning Blend. I have a Bella single cup K-cup or grounds coffee maker at home and it's pretty good too.

Not throwing out the percolator yet though, they never wear out and make the best coffee, but I hate the grounds.
  • Naturist, thanks for the link, I'll keep that in my shopping sites.

Have a drip at home but while camping we use a French Press also.
Wife bought me a vacuum insulated press about 15 years ago an it works perfect for us. Better coffee than the drip at home.
We usually camp 6-7 weeks a year.
We did use a French Press while out on the road - but the cleanup was hard - used too much water. We got a manual k-cup press similar to the OP's last year and we love it!

My feeling about the FP, too much, waaaaaay too much clean up. By the way I do use the Malita wrap around filters, still think the Presto single k cup maker is a neat coffee maker. $0.33 cents a cup is not that expensive.

  • theoldwizard1 , I agree with ya, no better coffee than out of a french press. The MyJoe from Presto is nothing more than a French press. Also loose coffee is a lot cheaper than a K-Cup
  • Are you using a paper filter? Even with a very small hole for the stem it works for me.
  • I'm glad to hear you've found things that work for you. I'll offer another: percolator filters that wrap around and contain the grounds for easy/clean disposal and prevention of crunchy coffee. Gourmay wrap around coffee filters

These work very well, and at 99 cents for a package of 24, the price is right.
