:E !!! The real, true "original recipe" is different in critical ways to that which survives today !!!:E
For one thing, it calls for fresh beans...but perhaps the most important present omission is that of the traditional celery salt. I refer of course to the First Known Incident of anyone ever having been aware that green beans, whether fresh or canned, could be combined with canned soup of any kind.
On purpose, I mean.
And it was served to no less a personage than THE QUEEN of IRAN!!!
I here refer you to the following account published on April 22nd, 1955, and immortally entitled:
"American Homemaker serves beans to Queen". (The winning recipe is reproduced therein.)
If it's good enough for a Queen, who are we to argue? :B
