I used my new Maverik this Christmas. Great gadget. I bought 2 extra probes online as I hear they are pretty fragile.

I bought one made by Camp Chef for my SIL at Gander Mtn. Price was around $30, less than half of what same unit was couple years ago. It does have an upper temp limit, but should work to let him know when meat is done, without having to open and close grill and let heat escape.

Remote? Walmart carries digital with probe wire. Probe in meat in the oven, unit sits on counter. Less than $10. They also carry a fork. Stick in the meat and measure temp.
