Sorry. You asked for New Years Eve.
Nothing to be sorry about 'cause it's days of celebration:).
Well, I did some thinking, surveyed the fridge's contents, and came up with a menu for both the 31st and 1st.
New Year's Eve Dinner for 2
appetizer: smoked salmon rillettes on celery.
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/smoked-salmon-rillettesThe recipe calls for the pate to be served on rye crackers but don't have any and we are trying to keep our grain intake down. I wanted to use endive leaves at first but there's plenty of celery in house.
fish main course: grilled fresh sardines on a bed of garlicky potato puree topped w/ Greek salad.
http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2012/10/grilled-sardines-lemon-garlic-paprika.html palate cleanser: Campari sorbet/gelato served in sherry glasses.
Great stuff when I can buy/find it. Clears the oily taste of the sardines out of mouth and allows a new start w/ ease. Would sub low sugar, high citrus grapefruit or lemon flav if Campari wasn't available.
soup course: monkfish and shellfish brodetto.
https://www.citarella.com/content/brodetto-with-clams-and-monkfish/Still have not decided if I'll use country bread slices or bread crumbs in this dish; time will tell.
Dessert course: French style rice pudding.
The man is in rice pudding nostalgia land and even cream puffs stuffed w/ lemon curd and whipped cream will not stop him; I'm okay w/ that despite having cream puffs already made in the freezer. Lotsa uses for the puffs during the forthcoming winter birthdays and such. This is probably not yr Mommy's rice pudding as it's made w/ heavy cream instead of milk.
Brut Procesco served throughout. This is prolly a fantasy I'm having. The man can't celebrate w/o a vodka martini.
New Year's Day Dinner
Antipasti plate: various jarred veggie goods w/ homemade Spanish stye 'shrooms and smoked mini mozzarella balls.
Main course: Veal scallopini w/cappelinni, capers and lemon.
Some kind of a fruit dessert...maybe a wine poached pear?
Got a bottle of Taittinger to make me happy; the man still will have "wodka".
