Nuwave vs Salton

Hi,

I followed the siren song of the lower price ($40 cheaper and a pot) for the Salton induction cooker vs the NuWave.

The Salton works just fine--but only has ten temperature/power settings. I found the settings were either too hot or too cold for my needs.

I returned it to Walmart and got the NuWave. The NuWave has 52 power settings with some "presets". The presets seem to fit my cooking style pretty well--but it can be "tweaked" 10 F at a time if the "man in the apron" so desires.

The NuWave has a slightly smaller foot print--but is also somewhat thicker. Cost was $120.00

Going "flat out" both draw about 1300 watts.

I got lucky and the two pots I use most often work well. I did have to splurge on a new frying pan.

  • Hi,

No, there is no fan running.

I've done some further testing. From dead cold on the low setting the unit draws about 700 watts. Once it reaches that temperature it cycles on and off to maintain the temperature. On the sear setting that becomes 1700 watts, dropping within a minute to 1300 watts.

    Hi,

I just check the "idle" current draw on the NuWave. It is a whopping 60 watts! I'll not be leaving that plugged in when I boondock that's for sure!

That sounds awfully high for digital LCD's, you sure there isn't a decimal point missing? Or that this isn't the fan, which runs for a minute after shut down and when the unit cycles.
  • I was in Walmart today and in their "As seen on TV" section they are closing out the NuWave for $49.00.
  • Hi,

I just check the "idle" current draw on the NuWave. It is 2 watts. I did not realize that an apple laptop power supply was on the same circuit.
  • Hi Sez,

If a magnet will stick to the bottom of the pan you can use it on an induction cooker.

I'm interested in the nuwave but I don't know if the Emeril Lagasi stainless steel pots and pans will work on it. They say to look for the symbol, but there is no symbol on the pans. Maybe it was on the box that was thrown away about 10 years ago.
  • Count me in. I found a NuWave on line for a good price. I am using it every day. I like it so much I'm going to get a second one and use them both in the TT. My NuWave oven which is almost 10 yrs old and used frequently needs a new "bowl". Looks like I will have to buy a whole new one. It will be worth it. I've had great luck with the oven and now the burner.

  • I have two NuWave Pro units. I use them in both the MH and SB. I can't help it if they are made in China, they are great.

    Good Luck1
