I read someplace where they were having an onion festival in Texas. I thought either the onions were something special or the Texicans were hard up for an excuse to have a festival. I found their Texas Sweet Onions, #1015 at Costco. They are worth a festival. I had got to the point of not believing the "sweet" ads of onions. I've bought some real "sweet" tear jerkers. Not a tear in the 10# bag of 1015's. I put a half inch slice on a sandwich and just have the flavor, no sting........ Just a FWIW thought. :)

They are really good, if they are authentic. A store her advertised #1015's, but when the wife got them home they were south of the border sweets. My wife is a little gullible and said she ask about them and was told they were the same thing, only from Mexico. (eye roll!)I also like the walla Walla and the true Vidalia's. I'm not a fan of the winter South American sweets. The favor isn't bad but the shape and the leaves leave a lot to be desired.

We enjoy both the Texas Sweets and the Vidalias. There's a Vidalia Onion Festival too. Good eats.

Don't forget Walla Walla Sweets.

Just wait until you grill a nice fat slice. It doesn't get any better

don't know about onions but I did go past a rocky mountain oyster festival in the rocky mountains. :)bumpy

That's one. But way too far away for me. The Texas Noonday Onion Festival is held in the little town of Noonday near Tyler every May. I eat 1015's and Noondays almost exclusively, and the Noonday is sweeter. But sadly, they are usually gone by mid June and the 1015's are around all year. I lucked out and found some Noondays this morning at the local farmer's market in Rockwall just outside Dallas. Surely my last sackful until next spring.

For those of us that use beef Ramen noodles for 101 recipes that don't call for using the season pack this is a good way to use up the season packs. I just cooked one on the grill using the beef season pack and some lemon pepper and it went well with the fajita's.

We make these in the DO. We cook the onion about 20 minutes to soften then scoop ou the center. then we mince together the scooped out onion bits with finely chopped walnuts, brown sugar and butter. Really good as a side dish.

Noonday Onion Festival in the little town of Noonday near Tyler. Very limited growing area in and around Noonday. The onions are also quite small, but are the best onion you'll ever eat; even better than Texas 1015 onions.

I raise my own oysters on the beach, but that's different, way different.

Peel a whole smallish Walla Walla Sweet onion and cut 2/3's of the way down to make 6-8 wedges. Wrap in foil, leaving the top open. Top it with 2T of butter, a splash of Balsamic vinegar, and a bit of rosemary. Put it (them) on the BBQ until soft.
