Back in my working years we had electron tubes that had hugh magnet fields around them. Wristwatch lasted a minute or two around them haha...

Interesting problem. Were those tubes kylstron transmitters for radar by chance?
The videos I've seen on YouTube show the induction coil having an incredibly short range, it's probably operating at a low frequency. Hopefully it's also tuned to focus the radiation into as small an area as possible to keep efficiency high.
