When I was a kid in the early 50's an old man who had hobo-ed all over the country in the 30's used to take several of us hunting and fishing. He knew more things to cook and more ways of cooking than anyone else I ever knew. He'd make a rabbit stew in a coffee can, or wrap fish in clay and bake them in the campfire coals. he'd pull wild onions for flavor and always had a little pack of salt. It doesn't matter so much what you cook ON (or in) as knowing how to make simple things taste good. I think of him often when I'm "camp cookin'"
