I served in an Army unit as an Air Force public affairs/broadcaster. The Army offered SOS in their mess halls, but they used hamburger. Not the same. Chipped beef in the glass jar, white sauce, over toast is how my mother and my father made it. Before my mother passed on, she taught my wife how to make it. My wife is a former Air Force dining hall technician (cook) , and we all know aside from Navy submarines, the best military chow is served in Air Force dining facilities. Twenty six years of marriage and I have eaten well.
