Like Murphsmom, I've owned most of my pots, and specifically my stainless steel, for a long time. Got a starter set of Cuisinart s/s as a gift back in the late '70's/early '80's. Added on to the set with a sautoir pan from the same company and I've been good to go ever since.
I've no idea if they still make pots in the same manner or even if it's owned by the same people.
Nowadays, when buying pots and skillets as wedding gifts or similar, I steer the domestic newbies towards these 2 well vetted sources:
Serious Eats Pot Recommendations
and
Cooks Illustrated
Interestingly enough both sites note the Tramontina 3 ply S/S line as giving a great bang for your buck. The line can be found at Walmart but I've no idea if they sell their cookware individually.
