I've been using the same set of WearEver pots 'n pans for nearly 30 years now (at home, not camping) and they still work well. There's some plaque in the nooks and crannies, and a little discoloration on the fry pan bottom.
They've never seen a dishwasher. Cleanup is seldom an issue - sometimes I'll burn something too much in the fry pan, that an overnight soak doesn't loosen - that's the time for steel wool.
