Stir Fry Bottles fr Grocery Store

I have become a passable cook since wife gave up cooking, but I am having holy hello with Chinese cooking. Can't seem to get anything right, even with my new wok, chaun, etc.

My question is, all those bottles of stir fry sauce I see in Walmart, can you just brown the meat, splash in some of that, and come up with a pretty good Chinese dish?

We used to love Wan Chai Ferry's spicy chicken mix, but it was discontinued --- guess nobody else liked it.

  • We love the packets and use them all the time! And keep them stocked in our pantry.
  • Yeah, the 5 spice and the fish sauce; I know there is something missing from these recipes I use ---- don't taste at all like the chinese restaurants.
  • Mongolian beef is my favorite, and what I have been having trouble with lately. Mine always turns out too sweet and doesn't taste right. Of course I could drastically reduce sugar, but then would the meat brown properly, and would the spice mixture thicken up as it should? Will try the mix, and hope it suits my taster.
  • I found using just a sprinkle or so of 'natural' Chinese 5 Spice 'powder' and a touch of fish sauce will give you that Chinese take out taste! It's what they put in all their dishes. :W

Dried packet mixes?? Missed that, will check it out! Thanks,

    Look for these...

Usually in the cultural section or the sometimes there is a section dedicated to all packets like this whether they are gravy, spaghetti sauce, chili mix, etc.
  • Sure. Also, the dried packet mixes are fairly simple. just mix in water, soy sauce, sometimes sugar, and throw into your meat and veggies. Good stuff.
