We have camped on Thanksgiving for the last 10 years and I have been using my crockpot to fix my turkey for the last 3 years. Never thought about it before.
There are 4 of us, so an 8-9 pound turkey is plenty for us to eat, then have enough leftovers.
Turkey in the pot with salt, pepper and 1/2 stick of butter (the real stuff). Pot on at 8 am and ready by 4-5 pm.
I use some of the drippings to make my dressing, but DO NOT do stuffing because of the possibility of bacterial. (I am just like that, I am sure it has been done and could be done.)
I put potatoes in the oven and bake them first thing in the morning, then let them rest and cool for several hours, then make twice baked potatoes with sour cream, cheese, green onion and bacon. YUMMY!
I also make steamed broccoli right before dinner and fix rolls in the oven. Once, I did roasted brussel sprouts in the oven. They were yummy.
Dinner is usually served outside on the picnic table, which makes everything taste better.
