We upgraded from a PUP to a TT. We are mainly go on weekends. At least once every month sometimes more. In the PUP, I never had room to store clothing, food or anything like that. Now I do. What kind of food would be safe to leave in the camper till the next trip? I don't have the luxury of bringing my camper to my house on Thursday and packing it there. We basically throw the things we need to go in the truck, go hook up the camper, and off we go for a 30 minute drive to the state park. I have thought about ants getting into things. So, I'm looking at can goods or things I can put in a plastic storage container. But I want to know what kind of items you leave in your TT.

Spaghetti and sauce (can or jar), instant potatoes, a few cans (potatoes, baked beans, tuna, salmon), instant coffee, loose tea, sugar cubes, salt, pepper, other basic spices, jar of mayonnaise, pancake mix. Never had a problem with ants.

Cinnamon, vanilla, rice, rice-a-roni, mac and cheese, normal spices, some canned fruit, oatmeal.My buddy keeps a month supply of foods like oatmeal - in case a earthquake brings down his house. Always keep things like silverware, cooking pots and pans, 12 cupcake pan, ect. I like to make cornbread muffins, so that is a must. Keep some comet too. IF you get to a campsite with ants, spread some around each tire, the jack, and the electrical cord. Most times the ants will not bother to cross the comet line, it hurts their skin. Yes many of these things are in tupperware. Such as sugar, brown sugar, instant oatmeal packages. I don't like taking a lot of the cooking things back into the house after a trip. One trip I was about 15 miles east of nowhere, and needed to eat dinner. I had lots of cans of soup, no can opener. Good luck,Fred.

We winter in Louisiana and Summer in the Northern states.We keep everything we need to live for 60 days in our MoHo.We can 'get outta Dodge' in 10 minutes if needed - move current fresh stuff from the house fridge to the rig and GO!!!Changes of clothes (suitable for winter and summer), kitchenware, canned and dry foods, and of course, water (which is drained and refilled every 30 days). Yes, it's a bit of work, but I think it is prudent. No need to have a good piece of survival equipment and not use it efficiently.

Summer time temps get to over 100 in Sacramento so in addition to considering perishable vs. non perishable, I take out some stuff that I think the high heat might have an impact on.

It depends on how much time the RV is idle between trips. If there're some back to back tours I leave the oatmeal in a sealed plastic bag and other non-perishables in cans. If its more than three weeks between tours we take everything out except the salt and pepper and ret up the rig to remove food particles. Mice can smell food encased in plastic. They'll overrun your stores in a hurry.

Our first trip of the year I pack up everything that will stay in the RV for the season. I found small baby food plastic containers are great for some seasonings, salt, parsley, baking soda, baking powder, etc. I buy canned goods for the RV and what isn't used first trip remains for the next. Coffee, sugar, flour, etc goes in snap lid containers that are labeled and remain for the season. Cereal, oatmeal, crackers, anything in a cardboard container gets transferred to snap lid. There are exceptions like pkgs of spaghetti, rice-a-roni, etc. that stay in original containers. Then I only need to purchase fresh food pretty much for the current trip.
No soda pop remains in our RV.
We keep some jackets, spare swimsuits, sweatshirts in the RV all season. Also all linens, towels and beach towels stay. Anything to minimize the 'load time'. We find it only takes us about an hour to load for a trip. We each are responsible for our own clothes, meds, personal effects. I load food while hubby is checking tires and prepping the RV to roll.

I keep everything I need in the trailer. The only thing I have to take is fresh food and clean clothes. Even then, there are some extra clothes that stay in the trailer until I use them.

By the sounds of it no one has had a problem with can goods getting to hot in the summer months (100+ some days here in Midwest) and causing damage to the contents?

In Western Washington we worry more about rain and roof leaks than 100* days damaging canned goods

Use snapware for things like flour, oatmeal, pasta, breadcrumbs. Keeps out moisture and bugs and they come in several sizes to fit into RV cabinets. Leave can foods in the RV in the spring and summer, be sure to take them out in the fall. Be careful with carbonated beverages, they do heat and then will pop, that's messy. For refrig items we got a basket that fit in the house fridge (had an extra fridge in basement) put in the smaller containers of mustard, mayo, ketchup etc that were open then all we had to do was grab the basket and put the stuff in the RV fridge. As for linens and clothes they all stayed. Had differant colors for the RV than the house so you can tell at a glance what went where. Use a laundry basket, put clean in to just grab and go and then used the basket for dirty clothes. Left as much as possible in the RV. We are now fulltime so everything stays. But I remember the days of being ready in a flash.

The RV is stocked just like the house. Full of linens, tolietries clothes blankets , cleaning supplies, condiments and frozen food.
Just add fresh and perishable food and we are ready.

We pack staple type food in totes. We do not leave it in the trailer because of the heat. Since it is packed and stacked, it is easily grabbed for it's spot in the bed of the truck. Totes are labeled with contents, so it is easy to pull out what we want.

We have a tiny trailer so we really don't have a lot of space inside the unit anyway. terry r.
