Which frying pan for on the BBQ?

Bought new BBQ without side burner.

What type of 'regular' frying pan can be used right on the grill?

Cast iron
Stainless steel
Aluminum

Which one do you use and recommend. None of them are cheap so I'd like some advice to buy the one that works! :B

Tks!

  • Here's a link to instructions for seasoning cast iron. If you don't season it, anything with protein in it will stick like glue - forever.
I inherited two of my Grandmother's skillets that are fully seasoned and as slick as Teflon. She passed away 66 years ago.
  • Love cast iron. I have a lot of it. A suggestion is to get a nice reversible grill/griddle pan. It was a life saver a few weeks back. I was invited to a cook out. My son was planning on using the gas grill and at the last minute, realized he was out of propane. We did the steaks on the cast iron grill plate in the kitchen-they turned out perfectly. They made pancakes on the griddle side, next morning. It cost me $14, and is long enough to fit over two burners. Don't know how it would work on an electric stovetop.
  • One more vote here for cast iron. If you go with one of the others, do be aware that plastic handles are to be avoided at all costs.
  • Best bang for your buck and great application would be CI in my opinion. You can get a new 12" skillet for about $30.00.
  • cast iron first preference, but stainless steel with heavy bottom and metal handles will do ok.
Lodge cast iron, or you might find a good used one on EBay.
  • Cast Iron is my choice. I have used several cast iron pans on the grill for years. Works great. Holds heat.
  • Cast Iron is best

Stainless steel is good if it has a thick bottom

    Aluminum.....won't have/use

Just remember the handles need to be able to handle the heat/flare ups
