I was a Navy Hospital Corpsman. The first shot I ever gave, I drew the liquid into the syringe, cleared the air out, stuck it into the patient's arm(a little too hard), Pulled the plunger back to be sure I hadn't hit a blood vessel, and accidentally pulled the needle out of his arm - before I'd given him the injection. He said, "It didn't hurt at all". Then I told him that I had to do it again. He was a good sport about it.
Jim, I've got plenty of stories like that from nursing school, too! One of the worst was my friend- the first day we went out on the floors to do vital signs- found me, she was nearly in tears, stating her patient had the thermometer in his mouth. I said, yeah, we are supposed to take temps. She said, you don't understand, it's the RED thermometer I put in his mouth. (If you are old enough to remember glass thermometers you know what THAT means!!)
