Your favorite tasty brands of pickle products?

I love dill pickles and have noticed, sadly, that in most stores the variety and selection have narrowed. For example, Heinz Genuine Dills, which I consider the premier pickle, have largely disappeared from shelves. (Anyone have any leads?)

It also seems that polish dills are waning while kosher dills are still on shelves.

Could anyone share their favorite pickle products, be they national brands, regional or store brands, or even homemade recipes? Other relishes/pickled items you can recommend for those of us who like our sour (or sweet) sides and condiments?

Also what shapes do you like -- the regular hamburger dills, the sandwiches slices, the cornichons, the big dills? Do you like the more "well-done" pickles like Vlasic or the more "rare" less-cooked dills, or the refrigerated type such as Clausen?

Looking forward to hearing all opinions/recommendations!

  • Are garlic dills the same as Polish dills?

Forgot to mention, I do like the big jugs of hamburger dill chips from Gordon Food Service. But the jars always seem a bit unsanitary about halfway through no matter how meticulous we are in dipping out pickles with utensils. Any ideas for storing them in smaller quantities? foodsaver-type products or maybe in canning jars?
  • Sechler pickles, st joe Indiana
They have about 20 different Flavors, like orange, lemon, horseradish

Try the latest offerings from Viasic called Farmers Garden. They offer Garlic Dills,Bread and Butter Chips and some other varieties . They are packed in glass jars. A little pricey, but worth it IMO.
  • Favorite was Grandpa's garlic dills made with the cucumbers from his garden. Now that I'm thinking of it I'll have to look for the recipe.

These days I look for the Clausen whole pickles about 3-4" long(I'll cut my own for burgers etc...). Like a crunch, not a fan of soft or mushy pickles like McDonald's pickles, yuck.

Always had a thing for the little sweet gherkins for special occasions.
