Campground in NJ near Manhattan?

Some time ago I was told there was an RV park in New Jersey on the Hudson river and Manhattan NY was just a ferry ride across the river. Has anyone out there stayed there? I need the campground name and phone if possible, plus any info on the campground and tips about going over to Manhattan. All help will be appreciated.
  • I visited the NYC area last Fall and recommend staying on Long Island instead of NJ. Battle Row has a surprising rural feel and was clean and safe. (Also much less expensive). You can drive to the LIRR and take the train into the City.

Battlerow is county run and has a dump station. Is located near nice smaller towns for shopping and dining and near LIRR stations. Be sure to visit Jones Beach if you do decide to stay on the Island. You can get into the park free during the week (no camping overnight and no dogs).

You have to watch your routes (clearance). LI Expressway is safe and the campground is less than a mile from one of the exits.
  • Liberty Harbor in Nj safe but expensive 3 blocks to to train to pen station or the ferry
  • Liberty Harbor RV Park

Stayed there several years ago. Took the PATH in Manhattan. We walked there from campground. Seemed safe at the time. Also took the bus tour they offered.
