camping around New Orleans

We've never been to New orleans and it looks like we are doing a very last minute trip there somewhere between Fathers day and July 4th weekends. Does anyone have experiences at any of the campgrounds good or bad? I need to book a spot somewhere quick. I have no idea what there is to do down there but its where the kids want to go. Thanks in advance for any replys

    X2
  • we have stayed at the KOA in Slidel and also the KOA on the West side of town. that one had a shuttle to catch the street cars to down town.
    bumpy
  • Bayou Signette State Park is a great campground. No shuttle, but they have a nice swimming pool/splash pad for the kids. It is fairly close to downtown and is secure.

Attractions are Bourbon Street (mainly for the adults), The French Quarter. The WWII Museum is great for everyone.

Get some good Cajun food at lots of places down in the 'Quarter.
