Camping at Disney World

Actually, we didn't find Fort Wilderness all that expensive. Big thing is we went during a "slow time", October, so the rates were lower - about the same as a really good full hookup campground around us.

Also, check with AAA if you are a member! Our first trip we got a pretty substantial discount by making arrangements through AAA. They don't always have discounts, but ask.

April and October are to the months to visit Disney for me. If you want to be able to see 10' in front of you, go during the months the crowds are down. We took our kids out of school and it was worth every second.
Yep, we ate several meals a day in house and then splurged at a restaurant for lunch or dinner, and it was cheaper than the dining plan. Best campground we ever stayed at for the amenities and overall appeal.

We stayed at The Fort last October. We ate most breakfasts & lunches at the camper & paid out of pocket for the rest of the meals. We did park hoppers & spent a couple of full days in the parts. Other days we swam at the campground in the afternoons to break it up & rest a while. You can see Magic Kingdom fireworks from the campground beach & the electric water parade as well. You might want to rent a golf cart as the resort is big, but we could have done without one as the internal bus system was never a problem for us when we used it.

We buy 10 day, non-expiring, park hopper passes. They are a little more expensive but if you only use 5 days this year, you can go back next year or the year after and use any or all of the 5 remaining days. They days never expire. Good advice on Mouse Savers. You save the tax on the tickets and they send them directly to you. We found that this ticket gives you the best pricing but be warned that the sticker shock for a 10 day pass can be harmful to your health (LOL!!). When you break it down by day it comes to about $50/day. Hope you have a great time. We always do and have been going every year since '84.

Good advice about staying in Fort Wilderness and buying a park hopper pass.

Fort Wilderness is expensive but the convenience of being in the park makes it the best choice plus there are some other advantages - early entry to amusement parks and free parking (normally $15.00 a day)if you decide to drive.

Are you driving down? You should figure at least two days of driving each way.

Best thing is the 7 day Park Hopper pass. You can basically go anywhere and do anything in Disney World at any time just by showing the card they give you. If you want to cook your own food in your RV, then that is a money saver, but it is nice not having to do that.

When we went we got the 7 day park hopper with standard meal plan. The meal plan included one counter service meal, one table service meal, and one snack per day. You can mix and match how you use the meal plan. We made our own breakfast in the camper, then didn't worry about food the rest of the time.

I agree Park Hopper is the way to go! The greater the number of days purchased, the more reasonable the per day rate.
Fireworks at Magic Kingdom and Epcot are not to be missed.

I spend almost every year down there barr this one as we now have a newborn grandchild and I would feel bad not having her there so we are waiting a few years unitl she can go. anyway, We go for 11 to 14 days and always get 3 days of tickets with the park hopper and more option. heres why: you get 3 days of park hopping and you get three days of water parks so in total its 6 days of using the GOD awful Disney transportation and dealing with the crowds and heat and sometimes very wet weather as you spend mega cash on snacks and plastic breakables and argue about what to do next, etc. so as much as I love that place and the time with my Family you HAVE to have some down time to just enjoy the Fort Wilderness area and relax. We also like to driev around the Orlando area and since Disney no longer has the clubs at downtown Disney we have to go to Universal citywalk to get some night time Adult fun.

Get the 7 day ticket with the park hopper and water park options. That will allow you to visit one park early in the day and then finish your day at another, ie Animal Kingdom or water park first and the finish up at Magic Kingdom (fireworks) in the evening.

Camp Wilderness is an awesome rv park. There is a free bus system that runs within the rv park (it's a huge park)and another free bus system that connects all of the different Disney parks. There is a ferry boat system that connects Camp Wilderness with the Magic Kingdom and all of the Disney resorts scattered around the lake. And there is the free monorail that connects some of the parks and resorts. Park your RV for the week and Disney will provide all the free transportation to all of the parks.
