Camping at Road Atlanta in 2015

Looking at going to the Petit Lemans at Road Atlanta next year and need advice on what to expect. I've got three sons and a 32' Keystone Outback. I'd like to camp at the race track but know its a dry setup (power only). Several questions:

Best camp site location for viewing the race?
If camping inside the track, is it hard to get in and out?
What facilities are available, etc.
Are there some areas more crazy that others?
IS a reserved site worth the extra expense?
IF I can't secure a power site, will it be too hot to enjoy?
Are generators allowed?

Any help is appreciated.

    Most of the sites have no hookups of any kind, but they do have a few sites with power right on the track. These are in RV Area 9-8. All other sites reserved or not have no hookups of any kind. They do have tank pumpout trucks available for a fee as well as fresh water tank fills. During the 2014 race a tank dump and fresh water tank fill was $50.00.

    I like the sites on the Skid Pad Area. These are all reserved sites.

    If camping inside the track, is it hard to get in and out?

    No, but avoid the busy times. If you have a reserved RV site you can enter the track starting Tuesday morning and bypass the 75 or so RV's waiting in line for the general RV entry starting on Wednesday morning. Yes they are lined up days early for entry on Wednesday morning. It is nice to arrive on Tuesday and drive right by this crowd and be able to set up with virtually an empty track camping area.

    What facilities are available, etc.

    Bath houses are available, but no hot water is available. I have heard there is one bathhouse up by the main gate that does have hot water, but I have not verified that.

    Are there some areas more crazy that others?

    Not that I am aware of.

    IS a reserved site worth the extra expense?

    Very definitely. You can enter on Tuesday before the mad dash for unreserved sites that starts on Wednesday. You don't have to arrive and get in line the weekend before......

    IF I can't secure a power site, will it be too hot to enjoy?

    I have been there for the past 4 years and never used my a/c. I have used heat several times in the mornings to knock the chill off. This year the morning temps were in the high 30's and Sunday morning we had ice on our rigs. It warmed up quickly after the sun came up.

    Are generators allowed?

    Yes, no restrictions. I use a GenTuri and I wish more would, but there is no requirement to do so.

    PM me if you need more information. I was on reserved site #13 at RV area 5-6 and will be back on the same site for 2015.

    We went out just for the day this year to check it out.

    Best camp site location for viewing the race?
    Some of the purchase spots are right on track, very $$$.
    Cool thing, is you are able to roam and go all around the track, through pits, etc…..so I brought in a bike and traveled around.


    If camping inside the track, is it hard to get in and out?

    Gets congested, but cars come and go. We parked outside, pedaled in. Parking outside gets pretty spaced out, and there is only one road in & out, so a little hard to come & go during race. You would be able to come and go, once staged inside, you get a car pass.

    What facilities are available, etc.
    General bathrooms, is all I saw. There are vendors, fair food, car stuff

    Are there some areas more crazy that others?Overall, most camping BBQ’ing, watching races, relaxing,playing games, etc. during the race, lots of cars to check out inside, as well as races. Did not see any outrageous behavior, a lot of cruising around, cars, tractors, golf carts, bikes, etc..

    Definitely

    To get a general spot, most go in, Wed or Thurs (and there is races, Thursday, Friday, with main race on Sat). This going in early, stopped us from RV’ing this year. If you have the time to do Wed-Sun (a lot going on at the track).
    Much of the infield & track is NOT LEVEL, amazing hilly, couple fields for campers.
    Bikes are good way to get around.
