So you are saying if you would do a 5000 mile trip ok but if gas goes up a dime you cut back?

5000 mile @ 10 miles per gallon = 500 gallons at a dime more = 500 *.10 = 50 bucks !

And even if that trip was nothing but driving every day it would take at least 10 days at 500 miles per day, so that would equate to $5.00 per day. That is almost a quarter pounder with cheese meal. At that rate I would cut back too.
