Finger Lakes Area Campgrounds

We are headed to Niagara Falls and to the Finger Lakes area. Could you give us ideas of Campgrounds in those areas? We will be in a 40 ft motorhome pulling a car. We would like water, electric, and sewer if possible.

  • In the Finger Lakes area, consider staying at Letchworth State Park which is on the Genesee River gorge. Beautiful area and nice park for camping. They've done some upgrading of sites, so I'd check them out to see if they meet your needs.
In the Niagara Falls area, Four Mile Creek State Park is located on the US side and only a short ride to the main falls area. It will be quiter and more "woodsey" than any of the parks near the falls on the Canadian side. There's also a KOA in Lewiston, NY....not bad, but your basic KOA...but it's located very near a large waste management area!!!

Also in the Finger Lakes, Watkins Glen State Park is very nice, and the gorge at Watkins Glen is really neat to hike and explore. The tour boat for Seneca Lake is an interesting and scenic ride. Sampson State Park is also a nice one....and while in the Finger Lakes, do visit Corning and the Corning Glass Works.

    Have a great trip!
  • By the way, at the state parks, you usually won't have any sewer hook-up. Not sure about water....we used to have get water from a nearby faucet, but they have been upgrading some of the parks.
  • Clute Park in Watkins Glen is great and will fit your needs. It is a city park, really is, and you will not be sorry.

A little farther west is Camp Bell in Campbell NY, they are okay too.
  • There's a KOA that has big rig FHU sites in Farmington, NY on the Canandaigua, NY border. Canandaigua Lake is the start of the New York Wine Trail and there are plenty of sites to see within easy driving distance. Niagara Falls is a little over an hour away, as is Letchfield State Park and Watkins Glen. If you have young children, Darien Lake Amusement Park is about 45 minutes away and Seabreeze Amusement Park is only about a half hour away in Rochester. Rochester also has a neat little zoo that the kids would like, Seneca Park Zoo.

    Have fun and safe travels!!!
  • Watkins Glen also has a KOA which is ok. They built some new big-rig sites since we were there which are not shaded, but should have room for you. Nice enough place, and will have FHUs. State parks won't.
  • As in the above post, the KOA on Rte 414 out of Watkins Glen towards Corning is nice but pricey. Get your reservations early because its always full.
I grew up just down the road from it and it has always been decent and clean.

  • Hickory Hill is nice and clean. Nice pool and good sized sites. 10-15 minutes to Lake Keuka which was our favorite of the Finger Lakes.
