We haven't really decided on a time yet, we are still in the planning stages, when would you suggest be the best time to visit?
We are not so much interested in hiking,or biking. but more like touring wineries, scenic drives.
I think the best month is June. Before that, it can still get chilly and rainy. July and August can be wonderful, but you will get some really hot days. June is just about perfect.
At last count there were between 200 and 300 Finger Lakes wineries. Not all of them are great, but you can have a wonderful time visiting the nice ones. I recommend a book called Summer in a Glass by Evan Dawson. He focuses on the wineries that were the ones that started the development of great Finger Lakes wines back in the 1960's, 70's and 80's. The southern parts of the lakes have higher elevations, and that's where the great drives are. Getting up in the high lands and seeing the views of the lakes from up there is terrific. Check out the "bluff" on Keuka Lake. Keuka is the only "Y"-shaped lake the peninsula between the two northern branches is very high, and driving up there is almost like flying.
Speaking of flying, do you like flying? There is a great place to go gliding (soaring) in Elmira NY.
What other things are you interested in doing?
